GRITS

Now four albums strong, GRITS - made up of Coffee and Bonafide (their birth certificates read Stacy Jones and Teron Carter, respectively) - lit up the national rap radar with their 1999 breakthrough, GRAMMATICAL REVOLUTION. Recently, GRITS’ songs were featured on MTV’s The Real World, Resurrection Boulevard (Showtime), Pop Stars (WB), two episodes of Boston Public (FOX) and several independent films. Their small screen charisma put their videos in heavy rotation on all the major outlets (Yo! MTV Raps, MTV2, BET, The Box) with such highlights as hitting Top 10 on BET's Rap City and nailing both Top 10 Most Requested and Top 5 Handpicked on MTV2. With so much video exposure, GRITS easily scored a 1999 Billboard Video Award trophy for the album's "They All Fall Down." Putting actions behind their words, GRITS is actively involved in many community-building causes. Last year, the group joined Erykah Badu, Kevin Powell, MC Lyte, and Goodie Mob on a "Rap & Race: Educating Black Minds" panel at Nashville's Fisk University. They were also a featured artist at the National Black Expo, Rock the Vote with Montel Jordan, and in the 14-city festival tour ERACE, which helped raise awareness about racism.
